The first image I ever smurfed up was an accident. I started with the black and white photo at the bottom, and scanned it as you see it. I wanted to make outlines of the people and put numbers inside the outlines, for a legend to use in group pictures in genealogy. Instead, I used the Edge Detect filter in ZSoft's Photo Finish program and got the image that you see below, which looked to me like a pencil sketch. Most people think it's a sketch, but not scanning expert Larry Ledden. He looked at it and said, "Someone has been playing with Edge Detect."
Here's what the original image looked like. The woman on the top left is my father's mother, who has been gone since 1967. This photo was the inspiration for the song that plays with this page.
